THE BOOM! AWARDS
Tuesday 7 April 2009: More than 50 BOOM! participants were congratulated at the inaugural BOOM! Awards which took place at the Apple Store on Regent Street in London.
The film-makers and films recognised at the BOOM! Awards event included the Film Junkies club from Bournemouth who won Best Film for their film 'The Daemon Drink' about the peer-to-peer pressure behind teenage alcohol abuse, and Darlington YMCA who won the Oustanding Volunteering Award for their film 'Individuality' which challenges mis-perceptions about people who are homeless. Rhys Williams from Bromley Film club in south-east London - 'Soldier's Eyes' - Best BOOM! Blogger:
Laverne Major from Law, Leisure and Learning club in Birmingham - Best Community Story:
Film Junkies club from Bournemouth - 'Life's a beach' - Outstanding Club Leader:
Ammara Ali from ELG Interface club in east London - 'Teenage pregnancy' - Outstanding Volunteering:
David Midcalf & Adam Sayer from Darlington YMCA - 'Individuality' - Best Film:

The Awards event was hosted by Kylie Norman, a presenter on Capital Radio, Classic FM and XFM and a film studies graduate, and also featured a live performance by singer-songwriter Jack Savoretti, who is inviting BOOM! participants to make a music video with a social message for his song Soldier's Eyes.
